Kayaking is a thriving passion of sporting enthusiasts from all over our area. This is due to the amount of waterways that we have at our back door. In summer kayaking is more popular as it means if you are fortunate enough to test the temperature of lake Wakatipu, you wont contract hyperthermia. In saying that there are a dedicated group who meet on Sunday mornings throughout the winter to have a social race and see how the training is progressing. More information about the series is below.

Dont worry its not a multisport race!!

Our races dont look like this!!!

The club being as passionate as we are organize three kayak races for athletes to enjoy. The first being the Clutha Classic. This is a legendary race that leads competitors from the Wanaka foreshore to Maori Point road via the Clutha River (BEWARE DIDYMO IS PRESENT HERE) Always a popular hit out before the Coast to Coast.
The second race begins at the head of the Hawea river and follows to smooth and bumpy rapids into the clutha river finishing at Maori Point. Due to the relatively small volume of the Hawea river paddlers start in waves. DIDYMO IS ALSO PRESENT IN THE HAWEA!

A relatively flat paddle with the only obstacle the boils under the Clyde bridge. A good hit out for the duathlon in the afternoon!

Clyde to Alexandra

18th September

Smiling on the Clutha

Local paddler enjoys a morning out in the sunshine!

A tradition that extends back almost as far as the Blossom Festival! Race starts from Miners Lane in Clyde and then follows the river to Alexandra. Prizes include Chocolate fish! Handicapped on boat type.

Followed by Duathlon in Earnscleugh in the afternoon. Meeting at Laing road, start time to be advised.Competitors relax after completing the Earnscleugh duathlon
